我回家了，再见中国 - I’m returning home, Goodbye China - Episode 9
And so the series finally comes to an end. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this short series and once again I’m sorry for how long it took me to finish. BUT I DID finish! Which is a great feeling. Now onto the NEXT PROJECT!

I really enjoyed Zootopia so here’s a new illustration available as a print at Supanova next weekend. Later I’ll open up an online store with this available as well.
Like I’ve mentioned before I want to better my illustration skills, I feel like I’ve definitely made an improvement but of course there’s still a ways to go. Keep on working!

The final illustration
Step 1: Wanted to do Ancient east asian inspired outfit (tried tai qi look)
Step 2: Thought of a younger link and a traveller.
Step 3: Wanted to trial different body and face shapes (ended up reverting back to cute face)
Step 4: Practise poses, liked the hat but also liked the bow. Hat made him feel older.
Step 5: Though there were some better poses here, they failed to show off the design as well as the final image. While the simple standing ones were TOO boring.
Hi all, I’m trying to make sure I keep up my character design and illustration skills so I’m doing the monthly Character Design Challenge. This month’s theme was The Legend of Zelda and thought of redesigning link in an ancient Japanese peasant/fisherman’s outfit.
Also, here is the process of how I ended with this design. Honestly I spent FAR too long on this (worked on it over the course of a few weeks after work) but it’s good to see it through.

Anonymous: Hi! I just finished reading your comic on tapastic and I found it really helpful ^^ I'm also going to study in China next year and was a bit worried but now I'm really excited! I was just wondering what's your Chinese like now after spending a semester there? And were there any other Chinese people who couldn't speak it or only spoke Cantonese bc they were born abroad? I'm kind of embarrassed to have to learn so late ><
Hi there,
I feel super bad for not having updated my comic in ages, I’ll see if I can jump back on it soon.
My Mandarin had improved so quickly. From being unable to speak any Mandarin I improved in only the 4 month course to knowing all the basics and a tad more. I can talk about who I am, what I do, what my hobbies are, ask directions, order food, and have a general conversation with people. I can’t talk about business, in depth emotions or anything beyond a simple conversation but I’m certainly able to travel in China now without feeling lost in translation.
The first month or so will be the hardest since you know nothing, but jumping into the deep end is the quickest way to learn.
Don’t be ashamed of not having learnt in when you were young, learn it when you want to. I was in a class dedicated to never having studied Mandarin so there are certainly others in the same boat. I remember a couple of people who could speak only cantonese and no Mandarin, so that’s expected too.
